PARIS--Instead of falling down a rabbit hole, Alice in Wonderland is now making her way through a tin can. At least this is Jean Paul Gaultier's take on Lewis Carroll's book, which the designer--whose corseted perfume bottle, of course, is housed in a can--has updated for his new fragrance commercial. In the commercial, a wide-eyed Alice--played by 16-year-old Russian model Christina Semenovskaia--meanders through a tin can, weaving her way around wackily dressed Gaultier mannequins as she clutches a doll resembling the designer. After a voice intones, "Spirit, are you there?" the bottle appears and the Gaultier doll blinks awake. It marches off as the bottle flies into Alice's hands. The 45-second version of the commercial began appearing in German movie theaters two weeks ago and on French television stations last weekend. The commercial was directed by Jean-Baptiste Mondino, who also shot the scent's new print ad.
