NEW YORK — Mary McFadden is bringing her special-occasion suits and dresses to the better market.
The designer has signed a licensing deal with American Fashion Design Corp. to produce a line called Mary McFadden Studio, which will wholesale for $75 to $150. Rusty Ruster, president of American Fashion Design, said the line will open Oct. 2 and will have its own showroom, at 530 Seventh Ave.
Ruster, most recently president of Oleg Cassini Knits, has set up American Fashion Design solely as licensee for the Mary McFadden Studio collection.
“Our plan is to do $5 million the first year and $25 million in five years,” said Ruster, who came out of retirement to run the company. “We could probably do more at first, but we want to control distribution.”
McFadden said she will design the new line with the same styling and philosophy as her signature collection and her Collection MMCF secondary line, which is priced in the lower end of the designer market. “This will enable a whole new customer to afford a collection that I am proud of,” McFadden said.
