The WWD stock index fell 0.7 percent in the week ended May 5, moving against a 0.4 percent gain in the Dow Jones Industrial Average. Many retail stocks were hit hard after reporting sluggish April sales. Ann Taylor Stores Co. and Dayton Hudson Corp. both fell after saying they would post sharp declines in first-quarter results.
