NEW YORK--Those rumors about the sale of Ellen Tracy are circulating again--and this time the prospective buyer is said to be Stephen Ruzow, president of Donna Karan Co.
Neither Herb Gallen, Ellen Tracy chairman, nor Ruzow returned calls for comment Wednesday.
The latest rumors have Ruzow heading up a group of investment bankers in an impending deal for the $250 million bridge sportswear company.
Reportedly, designer Linda Allard would remain with the company.
Ellen Tracy is one of the most consistent bridge performers at retail and has increased its real estate in stores and steadily grown through the difficult climate for selling apparel. Speculation about the sale of Ellen Tracy was circulating during the runway shows in April, but at that time, Gallen told WWD: "Every year I talk to people, but there's no deal."
He said he had come close to selling the company three times in the last eight years, but each time the deal fell through at the last minute.
