TARGET PRESENTS FASHION SHOW TODAY

NEW YORK — It may not be ready for the prime time tents in Bryant Park, but mass market store Target definitely has fashion fever.
The 611-unit division of Minneapolis-based Dayton Hudson Corp. is putting on a full-force fashion show called “RTW — Real Target Wardrobes” today, at trendy Tribeca Studios here. The show, for press, will present fall fashions from Target’s private label lines for men, women and children, said a spokeswoman for the store.
Target has been a star performer for Dayton Hudson; same-store sales were up 5.5 percent and total sales rose 13.6 percent in June.
The fashion show here is an awareness-raiser for the Midwest retailer, which has declared its intention to find new store sites in Washington, Baltimore and Virginia, as part of its plan to break ground for about 60 stores this year.
Lynne Manheim, an independent show producer who is directing the show, said there will be 20 female, five male and three child models. There will be about 76 looks divided into five groups — brightly colored high tech outerwear, sportswear, fleece and loungewear, rugged outdoor looks and activewear.
