THE SHAPE OF THINGS

LINDA ALLARD ELLEN TRACY
Designer Linda Allard is taking it easy this summer with an ultra-simple approach to her collection for Ellen Tracy. "I like summer dressing that you can pack and run," says the designer. She's sticking with a black and white palette that mixes and matches. "The shapes are clean, and after such a colorful spring, I like the simplicity of black and alabaster."There's a method to Elie Tahari's transition collection. He calls it "a modernized Forties' look for the Nineties." Tahari takes simple slips and wrap dresses and adds old-fashioned jacquard patterns and skinny belts for his fresh new look. "I feel women need easy, wearable clothes that hug the body," he says. His comfortable cropped slim pants and little sweaters fit the bill.

MICHAEL KORS
Michael Kors is giving his summer collection what he calls a "Hawaiian punch." The designer pulled out the stops on florals this season, putting them on bikinis, dresses and pants. "I think summer is the time when the rules relax and most women are looking and feeling their best," he says. And with that in mind, Kors takes shapely dark and white hopsack linen pieces and adds florals that can make the transition from work to the beach.
