LISTANOWSKY JOINS LIMITED IN NEW QUALITY CONTROL POST

NEW YORK — Seeking to raise its quality standards, The Limited Inc. has hired Jack Listanowsky, a top Liz Claiborne executive, as chief sourcing and production officer, a new corporate position.
Listanowsky, currently Claiborne’s executive vice president of manufacturing and operations, will join The Limited in mid-April and report to Leslie Wexner, chairman and chief executive officer. He has also been named a Limited vice president. His last day at Claiborne is March 30. “He is a fashion industry leader in identifying and developing outstanding global sourcing relationships,” Wexner said in a statement. Listanowsky, Wexner added, “will be very important to our growth.”
Claiborne did not name a successor. “The position will be placed shortly,” a spokeswoman said.
Listanowsky will work with Mast Industries, which accounts for about half of the company’s sourcing, and with Limited store and catalog divisions, which also sources products. The appointment also underscores Limited’s efforts to enhance the quality of its fashion products and strengthen the brand image of its private labels.
Some of the corporation’s women’s divisions, particularly Limited Stores, have suffered from weak sales over the last few years, partly due to the quality of the products. However, the performance of the Express division has reportedly picked up this season.
Wexner recently shuffled the top management of several of the divisions in an effort to bolster results. New presidents at Limited Stores and Express, tapped from inside the organization, were recently named.
Sources also noted that the changing of the guard at Liz Claiborne may have been a factor in Listanowsky’s decision to join Limited. As reported, Paul Charron was named vice chairman and chief operating officer last April and is slated to become president and ceo in May. Listanowsky could not be reached for comment.
He joined Claiborne in 1981 as a sweater merchandiser and rose to his current position in 1989.
