NEW YORK--The Doneger Group, one of the largest independent buying offices, and Fashion Merchandising Associates, a buying service specializing in the bridge and designer markets, have joined forces.
Sherry Cassin, a former principal of FMA, will join Doneger as executive fashion director. FMA and its clients--mainly small designer specialty stores--will be folded into The Doneger Group.
Cassin also brings expertise in the international arena, with clients such as Selfridges in London and Il Principe in Florence. She will continue to serve those clients while expanding Doneger's international roster.
"Sherry's specialty store experience adds to our business strategy of continuing to develop our better, bridge and designer business," said Abbey Doneger, president of The Doneger Group.
"My company has a niche focus, concentrated on advanced young designer, bridge and contemporary," Cassin said. "We're not really competitors. Only in the last couple of years did our markets overlap. "I felt the Doneger group offered my stores options that I, as an independent, certainly couldn't offer," Cassin added.
Doneger includes women's large and tall size divisions and Thompson/Auer, a newsletter.
