THE GLAMOUR HATTERS

NEW YORK — Jody Ann and David Rodriguez are experiencing a quick rise to accessories stardom with the launch of their new hat line, Rodriguez. The pair, who met in Los Angeles while working at a men’s wear company, soon started dabbling with their own hat designs. After arriving in New York this past October, they started to show their hats to retailers. They joined Apropo and now have a 28-piece collection. Most of the hats are made out of a colored burlap weave with terry cloth and linen used as accents.
The Rodriguezes say their inspiration comes from an eclectic mix of ideas: books, old movies, people on the street. Wholesale price points for the collection range between $30 for a terry cloth beanie to $130 for a raffia and linen hat. David says eventually they hope to have a full line of men’s and women’s clothing — everything from top to bottom: “That’s why we started with hats; we can work our way to the bottom.”
