NEW YORK--Seeking significant expansion in the U.S. and Canadian markets, Dolce & Gabbana has created Dolce & Gabbana USA Inc. and appointed Simonetta Morrison to head it. The U.S. unit will be based at the Dolce & Gabbana showroom at 532 Broadway in SoHo for the time being. Morrison, who is president of the new division, said the company is looking for "major growth" for the men's and women's collections and the accessories lines in the U.S. and Canada. "I'll be working with key retailers and planning Dolce & Gabbana stores across the U.S.," she said. Prior to Morrison's appointment, those chores were handled from Italy. Morrison will report directly to designers Domenico Dolce and Stephano Gabbana. Her duties are limited to the collection lines. She will not handle the lower-priced D&G line. Prior to her appointment, Morrison was vice president and divisional merchandise manager of accessories and fine jewelry at Bergdorf Goodman. She left Bergdorf's at the end of September. Before Bergdorf, she was with Saks Fifth Avenue for 11 years. Morrison, a native of Bologna, Italy, moved to the U.S. in 1979.
