ROSE TAFT

NEW YORK--Rose Taft, 78, founder and chairman of Rose Taft Couture Fashions Inc., a manufacturer of women's eveningwear, died Friday in Mount Sinai Hospital, Miami.
The cause of death was cancer, according to a grandson, Jordan Harris.
In 1957 Taft operated a small dress shop in Cedarhurst, N.Y., where she designed and made dresses for her clientele.
The business grew rapidly and subsequently relocated to Miami Lakes, Fla., where she formed Rose Taft Couture Fashions to produce better-priced dresses, beaded gowns and suits. Taft retired 10 years ago.
Taft is survived by a daughter, Marcia Taft, who is president of the company; a son, Alan Taft, vice president; a granddaughter, Melanie Silverman, sales director; five other grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
