Campbell Funeral Chapel, Madison Avenue at 81st Street. Hoffman died Monday at his home here. The cause of death was AIDS, according to his companion, Simon O'Hanlon. Hoffman joined Urban Outfitters in 1981, when it was a privately held group of five stores based in Philadelphia. He later moved here, where he worked briefly for Bonwit Teller and Benetton. Hoffman spent six months in London in the Benetton executive training program before returning here as the manager of the Benetton flagship store on Fifth Avenue. In 1984, he was named store manager at Urban Outfitters here. He eventually worked his way up to the divisional merchandise manager position. In addition to his companion, Hoffman is survived by his mother, Irene Hoffman; a brother, Peter Hoffman, and a sister, Melissa Purzycki.
