YES CLOTHING IN RED IN FIRST QUARTER; SALES DROP 18.8%
LOS ANGELES--Yes Clothing Co., a junior sportswear firm, lost $431,000 in the first quarter against a profit of $769,000, or 20 cents a share, a year earlier after a $1 million insurance gain. In the quarter ended June 30, sales decreased 18.8 percent to $6.9 million from $8.5 million in the year-ago period. George Randall, chairman, said gross profit improved to 18.7 percent from 10.6 percent last year. Selling, general and administrative expenses continued to decline, Randall said, while order backlog rose 30 percent.
