NEW YORK--Spiegel Inc. is back in the clearance center business. The catalog and retail company opened a 15,000-square-foot clearance center Friday, in Horizon Outlet Centers in Monroe, Mich. It offers men's, women's and children's apparel to be liquidated at 50 to 75 percent off the regular prices. Spiegel's only other clearance center operated in South Chicago Heights, but it closed in the late Eighties. Spiegel is based in Chicago. The company operates 10 outlets, which offer merchandise at 25 to 50 percent off the regular price. These units sell merchandise to be liquidated, plus goods bought specifically for outlet selling. Four more outlets are scheduled to open this fall.
