MANOLO SAYS HE’S SKIPPING RESORT BUT STILL DESIGNING

NEW YORK — Although he is skipping the resort season, designer Manolo said Wednesday he is still in business.
Instead of designing a collection for resort, he stated, he elected to take a vacation abroad.
Manolo pointed out that he had moved his SoHo design and showroom space four months ago from 40 Wooster St. to larger quarters at 480 Broadway. He noted the move might have been the reason for the rumors that he was closing his business.
“I have good backing and good clients,” said Manolo, who is known for his offbeat ready-to-wear.
“I’ll go forward with my business until I decide I don’t want to anymore,” he continued.
The designer announced he is working on a spring collection, and is planning to once again put on a fashion show at Landmark on the Park, located on Central Park West at 76th Street.
Ruth Finley, publisher of the Fashion Calendar, has confirmed that Manolo is indeed on the spring schedule and is scheduled to do his show Nov. 4 at 2 p.m.
“I will never participate in 7th on Sixth or any group show,” Manolo said. “It goes against what I want to do as an individual.”
