NEW YORK--Swimwear designers did some serious globe-trotting this season--but they found push-up looks and simple, glamorous maillots everywhere.
At Gottex, Cleopatra was the patron saint of the mix, with shiny gold suits detailed with turquoise beads and luxurious pareos that could have been pulled from King Tut's closet. Other looks ranged from classic blue and white color-blocked suits to lingerie-inspired pieces in sheer with opaque fabrics.
In a splashy show at the Copacabana, Jantzen sent out some daringly bare, brightly printed suits inspired by the wild beaches of Brazil.The South Seas were another stop on Jantzen's world tour, with a variety of little indigo and terra-cotta-colored batik suits.American design also made an impact with a striped nautical group--one of which, appropriately enough, was sported by a special guest model, Lu Parker, the current Miss U.S.A.
