NEW YORK--R.H. Macy & Co. said Wednesday that Herbert M. Hellman, general counsel and group senior vice president of law and real estate, is leaving the company. A successor will not be named. Hellman is the latest top-level executive to announce his departure from Macy's, which is being merged with Federated Department Stores. He served as principal negotiator for nearly all of Macy's high-profile legal and financial transactions over the last 10 years. In addition to managing an in-house legal department, Hellman managed Macy's real estate department, which included new store acquisitions and development. Hellman, who is 51, joined Macy's in 1980 as a vice president in the legal department.
