NEW YORK--Hearst Magazines reached over to Condé Nast Tuesday for a new publishing director. Anne Sutherland Fuchs, who had been the publisher of Vogue before she was kicked upstairs last March, has been named senior vice president/group publishing director at Hearst. She will be in charge of Harper's Bazaar, Town & Country and Marie Claire. Hearst also announced that Harper's Bazaar publisher Carl Portale is being replaced by his second in command, Jeannette Chang. Portale becomes the company's director of special projects. This is Fuchs's third fashion publishing company. Before her three-year stint at Vogue, she was senior vice president and publisher of Elle. Most recently at Condé Nast, she had been senior vice president, director, international, which was a job without many specific duties. Still, a spokesman for Condé Nast insisted her successor "will be named at a later date."
