PENNINGTON'S CUTS 2ND-QUARTER LOSS

TORONTO--Pennington's Stores Ltd., a retailer of large-sized women's apparel, narrowed its loss to $248,640 ($336,000 Canadian) in the second quarter from C$422,000 a year ago.
Sales for the period ended July 30 slid 4.7 percent to $13.3 million (C$17.9 million) from C$18.9 million.
The company noted that tight expense control helped to reduce its loss, and said July inventories were significantly below last year. As of July 30, Pennington's operated 151 stores.
