Emanuel Ungaro: At retail, he's hotter than hot. And, in the collection he showed Friday morning, Emanuel Ungaro demonstrated exactly why. These clothes are not runway inventions. They will be seen and bought in stores across the world--especially in America, where Ungaro is doing 50 percent of his ready-to-wear business.
Remember the New Length? You can forget it if you're an Ungaro customer. The designer likes his suits short and sexy. Remember all that drab black and beige? You can forget that, too. Emanuel, as always, likes his colors bright, bright, bright. The exception is evening, for which he presented a series of knockout sexy black cocktail dresses.
In order to wear Ungaro next season, his girls are going to have to get into super shape. He often teamed his jackets with matching bra tops, and lots of his fabrics were as sheer as Salome's veil. Of course, Emanuel just couldn't resist a section of prints. This time they were Indian-inspired, and, mixed all together, they were a bit over-the-top. They represented, however, just a brief interlude before Ungaro got into his disco finale. It was all boa trim, shiny metallic fabric and enough sequins to light up Regine's. It's Boogie Time again.
