Lunching at La Grenouille on Wednesday were the king and queen of home shopping: Ivana Trump of HSN and Kenneth Jay Lane of QVC. Far from being sparring partners, the two were quite chummy, with Lane giving Ivana--who was wearing a pink suit of her own design--several big kisses on the lips. Lane mentioned that he had been invited to the lunch at the British Embassy last week for Princess Di, but declined, he said, "because it was much more important to be with my shoppers." As for reports that Diana will buy an apartment in Trump Tower, Ivana said, "You remember years ago my husband let it be known that Prince Charles was going to buy an apartment in Trump Tower? He is a master of publicity." Though Diana may not get an apartment, she will get some free advice. Ivana said she plans to write Di a letter on how to handle Charles.
It won't be only the big-name designers who pull the celebrities into their shows during the New York collections. George Michael is flying over from London to sit in the front row at pal Christian Blanken's show this Sunday in SoHo. He'll be looking for new faces on the runway to cast in his latest music video. Also expected to be runway-gazing are Robert De Niro and Me'Shell NdegéOcello at Lola Faturoti's show on Friday afternoon, Tatum O'Neal and Julianna Hatfield at Frank Fleming's show today, and Debi Mazar and Ethan Hawke at Liza Bruce's show Nov. 4. The folks at Koos & deWilde have gone one step further: Bill Cosby is scheduled to walk the runway for the designers at their show next Friday.
Alberta Ferretti's "Rainbow Week" sweaters are back. The designer closed her #MFW show with a few day-of-the-week sweaters, which first debuted on the catwalk last January as part of the pre-fall 2017 collection. #wwdfashion (📷: @delphineachard)
