NEW YORK--Culling talent from Macy's and Abraham & Straus, Federated Department Stores said Wednesday that it has assembled a new senior-level team for Macy's East that includes Edward Brennan. Brennan has been named executive vice president and general merchandise manager for accessories, cosmetics, intimate apparel, jewelry and shoes. He had been scheduled to take a similar post at Macy's West. "At Federated's request, however, Brennan has agreed to remain in New York and to continue at Macy's East in this new capacity," Federated said in a statement. Brennan has been serving as a president of merchandising over men's wear at Macy's East. He will be part of the new executive committee at Macy's East, which includes division principals and senior merchants and store operations executives. Ten other senior division managers were named. A new team is necessary since Federated is taking over R.H. Macy & Co. and consolidating its Abraham & Straus division into Macy's East. The combined division will be headed by Hal Kahn, chairman and chief executive officer. Other executive vice presidents and general merchandise managers who will be part of the executive committee include Richard Leto, for dresses, coats and juniors; Kevin Morrissey, men's and children's wear, and Robert Homler, home goods. The top women's apparel post, which is being vacated by Joel Sneider, as reported, has not yet been filled. A new sales promotion director will also be named subsequently. Macy's East and Macy's West operated with a total of about a dozen merchandising presidents. The title is being dropped, since Federated prefers to call its top merchants executive vice presidents and general merchandise managers. "The title more accurately reflects their responsibilities," said a Federated executive. In some cases, category responsibilities are being juggled. Leto, for example, previously had juniors, children's and coats at Macy's East. He adds dresses, drops children's and oversees the other two categories in the combined Macy's East/A&S structure. Other senior vice presidents were named. They are Larry Anderson, buyer planning systems; Jerry Cohen, distribution; Mitchell Leventhal, planning and analysis; Raymond Loeffler, asset protection and safety; Arthur Matura, operations; Aphrodite Spirocostas, finance and administration, and Ronald Sykes, human resources. Federated also said that regional senior vice presidents will hold their current assignments and that Michael Stemen will continue as manager of the Herald Square flagship.
