Located along a busy stretch of Piedmont Road in Midtown Atlanta, Atmosphere is appropriately named. It is situated in a charming renovated old house surrounded by a white picket fence.

Inside, a tropical melange of color and sultry music is the backdrop for cuisine inspired by the French colonies. The restaurant is comprised of six rooms, each housing between four and six tables.

Atmosphere’s owners, Patrick Lascoutounas, Stephane Decourbe, Jean-Marc Metairie and Christine Gervais, all hail from Cannes, France, and have worked in restaurants across the globe, from Turkey to the Caribbean.

“We’ve all been friends for many years and decided to use our knowledge to create a restaurant where we could draw on our experiences of working abroad,” Decourbe said. Metairie said Atmosphere’s dishes “combines the perfumes, colors and tastes of the French colonies, from Tahiti to Southeast Asia.”

Hors d’oeuvres and salads include crab cake des Antilles ($9.50), a spiced lump crab topped with a compote of toasted coconut and pineapple. The salade seguiniere ($6.95) is a light mixture of shavings of smoked duck magret with frisee salad, aged goat cheese, tomato, pine nuts and sherry vinaigrette.

Entrees include Loup de Mer ($19.50), a delicate, sauteed Chilean sea bass on Piperade (mixed red and green papers) julienne and glazed baby carrots. Mignon de Porc ($17.50) is roasted pork, surrounded by Anjou pear, baby turnips and tamarind. 1620 Piedmont Avenue, (678) 702-1620.
