PARIS — With designer, model, client and editor peers regularly joining him and his employees at his kitchen table, Azzedine Alaïa has a reputation for being a fantastic host. Now he’s taking his hospitality to a new level.
Alaïa told WWD on Friday that he plans to soon open a three-room hotel next to his headquarters here in the historic Marais neighborhood. A joint venture with Milan retailer Carla Sozzani of 10 Corso Como, it will feature full-floor suites of about 1,100 square feet each, decorated by him and Sozzani.
Meanwhile, the main floor will feature a new Alaïa boutique devoted to design objects and also featuring rotating exhibitions. Renovations for the complex are already under way, but the designer — never one to rush things — declined to pinpoint exactly when it might open. It doesn’t have a name yet nor a rate card, but it does have an address: 5 Rue de Moussy.
"Chanel has its No. 5, a bottle of perfume, and now I have a No. 5 building," Alaïa said with a laugh.
Alaïa said he’s had his eye on the five-story structure for more than a decade. It previously housed employees of the nearby BHV department store. Ultimately, the main-floor design space will be connected to his fashion boutique at 7 Rue de Moussy, but Alaïa has no ambitions to put any clothing or accessories there. "There’s too much fashion," he said. "I leave that to others to do more."
Sozzani, meanwhile, famous for her Milan complex that houses a fashion boutique, restaurant and gallery, is finally ready to welcome guests. Her bed and breakfast there, Three Rooms, is slated to open next month.

The murals are McCoy’s interpretation of a Christmas eve party, the idea of charity and the spirit of family. His third mural, pictured here, is the most personal. The image depicts McCoy’s grandparents and father in London’s Trafalgar Square in the Seventies. “My work often features lots of sentimental objects.” #wwdeye
