PARIS — Fred Farrugia will end his tenure as Lancôme’s artistic director for makeup in April 2004.

A seven-year veteran of the L’Oréal-owned brand, he has created 13 seasonal collections for Lancôme and some of its signature products, including Juicy Tubes lip gloss and Transparence de Teint foundation. His final Lancôme collection will be called Calypso.

“We have come to the end of a cycle that has seen the rebirth of Lancôme makeup under the magical fingertips of Fred Farrugia, and international development in the image of boldness, trendiness and constant innovation,” said Marc Dubrule, managing director of Lancôme International, in a statement.

“Fred Farrugia and Lancôme both believe in the virtues of change and the need for renewed inspirations and universes.”

Dubrule noted the decision not to renew Farrugia’s contract was mutual.

“I am proud and happy that we have approached this separation in a spirit of friendship, and it is with a light heart that I am embarking on new projects,” Farrugia said in the statement, without divulging particulars.
