NEW YORK — Trish McEvoy has attempted to eliminate the intimidation factor.

In her first book, “The Power of Makeup: Looking Your Best at Every Age” from Simon & Schuster, McEvoy has developed a system to help women identify their “Level,” find their comfort zone, and create a makeup routine that fits their lifestyle. The book, which retails for $29.95, is due to arrive at Saks Fifth Avenue in New York City on Oct. 8 and will hit bookstores, as well as beauty retail environments, at the end of October.

“We want to educate her to be able to go to a cosmetic counter and communicate better,” said McEvoy, founder of Trish McEvoy Ltd. “The levels are about how much time you have, how much product you want to use and knowing your style — it makes going to the counter much less intimidating. Women love makeup, but they’re so intimidated by it.”

Just as McEvoy’s products and tools, such as The Planner, are designed to be simple, clean and organized, the same approach was taken with the book she co-wrote with Kathleen Boyes. McEvoy identified three Levels — broad categories to help women find the look that makes them feel their best — and walks readers through each step.

Within the book’s 240 pages, McEvoy addresses each Level by areas of the face and presents each step with the degree of detail she believes readers are willing to take on. “It teaches you your style, and in makeup, as in clothing, that is so important,” notes McEvoy, who described “a bare-bones girl” as a Level One; a Level Two “is a woman that would never leave the house without makeup,” and a woman who is a Level Three “can sit in front of a makeup mirror and pay such close attention to the details that she may be there an hour and love every minute of it.”

McEvoy, who is a Level Two, also addresses aging, skin care and and other issues.
