LOS ANGELES — HBO's Wild West series "Deadwood" was a big winner at last Sunday's Creative Arts Emmy Awards at the Shrine Auditorium here, which honors excellence for behind-the-scenes achievements such as picture and sound editing.
The show's costume designer, Catherine Jane Bryant, who wore Valentino, said while the women complained about the corsets, the men kvetched about the tight collars and pants. Her response: "The tighter the better."
Meanwhile, Wendy Benbrook of "MADtv" broke her Susan Lucci-like Emmy streak by winning best costumes for variety or music program after five nominations. She accepted her award in a dress of her own design.
