NEW YORK — Talk about a new way of looking at vintage. Exhibitors at last week’s textile design shows — Direction and Printsource — were heavily influenced by the Art Nouveau and Art Deco periods for their fall 2004 collections. Largely graphic and abstract, many of the patterns featured leaf and floral motifs, as well as soft geometrics. While the prints were retro, though, the use of unexpected color pushed up the modern quotient. Especially noticeable were shades of blue and green teals, as well as a selection of brown and red hues.
