LONDON — Burberry is showing and selling its London line this month, packed with neat suits, wool jersey dresses and strict silhouettes with a quirky feminine twist for fall 2007.
The line, which sells and hangs alongside Burberry Prorsum, but is not shown on the Milan runway, is becoming increasingly sophisticated. This season, in particular, the collection has a tailored edge — and that's not by accident.
"English sartorial tailoring is becoming a huge part of our women's business," said creative director Christopher Bailey, who didn't forget to soften the collection with Empire-line jersey dresses, cashmere sweaters with epaulets and silk wrap dresses with leather trench buckles.
On the tailored end, there are lean military suits with ruffle details, four-pocket military jackets and cropped, double-breasted jackets. Fabrics include cavalry twill, wool flannel and cashmere.
Outerwear abounds: There are leather trenches with a sparkly silver finish, belted camel's hair coats, trapeze jackets and coats with bell sleeves.
“I see things on the hanger and I’m, like, ‘I never knew that color worked on me.’ It’s things you necessarily wouldn’t choose to wear, but once you put them on, you see why Janie is who Janie is." — Lily Collins on working with former "Mad Men" costume designer, Janie Bryant on creating looks for her role as Celia Brady's in Amazon series, "The Last Tycoon." 📸@jilliansollazzo #wwdeye
