The corporate structure and gleaming white catwalks of Los Angeles Fashion Week’s past were gone — not to mention organization and the attendance of buyers and press — but as shows began this past weekend, the indie spirit that has always surrounded the fashion community here remained strong. Groups including BoxEight, Gen Art and COLA have recruited some of the city’s more buzz-worthy designers including Raquel Allegra, Grai, The Battalion and Fremont, while others like Whitley Kros and Kevan Hall have opted for off-site informal presentations that will go on throughout the week. The results thus far? A contrast of styles that is as diverse as the city itself.
