NEW YORK — After several years of licensing his handbag line, Calvin Klein has taken it in-house, planning to infuse it with the themes and looks he’s known for.
“The bags are understated and sophisticated,” the designer said. “I wanted the collection to be totally new design-wise, which I think it is.”
The idea behind the new fall lineup shown here, for instance, was to create a natural, unconstructed feeling.
“We used a mixture of natural textures and colors and created a collection of bags that reflect the statement I was trying to make with my women’s collection,” Klein noted. These are “bags that allow a woman more freedom and choices…that can be taken to the office, out to dinner or used with jeans on the weekend.”
One standout group features touchable brown leathers trimmed with cool, clean silver hardware. Klein also went for a “strong statement” with several pieces in high-impact black patent leather.
The wholesale prices of the collection range from $150 to $550, similar to the previous range, although more items are currently offered in the lower price points.
“We feel very excited about the interest in the new collection and plan to expand it further, internationally and domestically,” Klein said. “Initially, we will concentrate on developing the line in specialty stores and select accounts and locations that will offer a full presentation of our collection handbags and accessories and an extension of the Calvin Klein philosophy.”
