NEW YORK — Call it bookworm chic. For J. Crew's fall collection, Jenna Lyons, senior vice president of women's design, said she was inspired by Candida Höfer and Umberto Eco's "Libraries," especially its photos of vintage wooden cases and bright bonded books. To wit, Lyons added a dose of old English charm to the label's pretty fashions, turning out a smart lineup of plaid dresses, boxy coats, regal crest intarsia sweaters and even an Empire-waist dress in a bookish library print. And as for that adorable schoolboy blazer, it looks as if Lyons studied up a bit herself at the university of Balenciaga.
