LOS ANGELES — Mossimo Inc., the 16-year-old apparel line sold exclusively in the U.S. to Target stores, said Thursday that Gia Castrogiovanni, chief operating officer, treasurer and secretary, resigned “to pursue other opportunities.”

Mossimo Giannulli, chairman and chief executive officer, did not return phone calls at press time but said in a statement, “Gia has been an invaluable partner in the transition of our company over the last five years” and thanked her for helping to create “a business that generates approximately $1 billion in retail sales.” Castrogiovanni couldn’t be reached for comment.

When Castrogiovanni departs the Santa Monica, Calif.-based company on Oct. 7, the company will not immediately replace her. Instead, her responsibilities will be divided among several vice presidents, all of whom report to Edwin Lewis, vice chairman.

Mossimo notched a net income of $1.8 million on sales of $6.9 million during the second quarter, ended June 30. In the same period last year, net income was $3.7 million on sales of $7.4 million.
