NEW YORK — Much has changed for Francisco Costa being named the Womenswear Designer of the Year at last week's 2006 CFDA Fashion Awards.
His heightened status became clear at the cocktail party Calvin Klein Collection threw for the women's creative director on Tuesday night. Costa was pulled in all directions by editors, retailers, socialites and celebrities, all of whom turned out to congratulate the Brazilian native and raise a toast in his honor.
Lindsay Lohan, wearing a white Calvin Klein Collection dress from spring, even curtsied and bowed to Costa, before letting out a shriek at the sight of Stephen Gan. Also on hand at the Chinatown Brasserie were Damon Dash and Rachel Roy, Ellen Von Unwerth, Barbara Bush, Vanessa Carlton Olivia Chantecaille, Cari Modine, Amy Sacco, Lisa Airan, Amanda Brooks and Alex Kramer.
Since winning the award, "my life has changed," Costa said. "I have a greater responsibility to push the brand even further."
Calvin Klein Inc. president and chief operating officer Tom Murry chatted with Barry Schwartz, who, at one point, called Costa over to meet Federated chairman, president and chief executive officer Terry Lundgren. Terrence Howard was wardrobed in a Calvin Klein Collection suit, which he lauded for its "effortless design." "The only thing missing is a black pocket square," he said, checking out the Chinese-inspired decor of the eatery. "This space is incredible. I am ready to eat," he said.
