Americans in Paris: The Fifth Edition

All 10 designers showcased at the three-day event held during Paris Fashion Week are former CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund finalists.

PARIS — The fifth session of the Americans in Paris program — created by the Council of Fashion Designers of America and Vogue, with the support of Tommy Hilfiger — wound down on Monday evening.

All 10 labels showcased at the three-day event held during Paris Fashion Week are former CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund finalists, including Wes Gordon; Patrik Ervell; Greg Chait of The Elder Statesman; A.L.C.’s Andrea Lieberman; Giulietta’s Sofia Sizzi; Daniel Silberman and Justin Salguero of Illesteva; Esquivel Shoes’ George Esquivel; Jennifer Fisher; Juan Carlos Obando, and Jennifer Meyer.

Chait introduced his children’s knitwear line — worked in fluorescent colors and including accessories like legwarmers — made in his factory in Culver City, Calif. Retail prices for the collection range from about $80 to $900. “I thought it was a nice opportunity to launch a new category,” said Chait. “It’s the first time anyone has ever seen it.”

Upcoming for The Elder Statesman is a Web site with its entire offering, which should go live in December, and most likely a freestanding store by the end of next year, in Los Angeles.

A.L.C.’s Lieberman was presenting a new handbag line, created in-house, with her collection. “It’s a nice collective,” she said of Americans in Paris. “And I always love being a part of a collective of really great talent.”

For her part, Meyer’s jewelry line hadn’t been shown in Paris before. “It’s amazing what CFDA does and the opportunities that they give you, and the fact that they give you this space,” she said. “For somebody like me that would have come to Paris and have had no idea how to show here, I wouldn’t have known where to get a space; I would have needed so much guidance on how to invite people and send out invites.

“I live in Los Angeles, so I’m sort of in a little bubble out there, where there are not very many editors and not very many fashion people,” she continued. “So it’s a great opportunity for me to see everybody.”
