The Council of Fashion Designers of America's Fashion Targets Breast Cancer initiative is humming some new tunes this year.

NEW YORK — The Council of Fashion Designers of America’s Fashion Targets Breast Cancer initiative is humming some new tunes this year.

The campaign, which was created 11 years ago to raise money to aid breast cancer charities, has made its mark over the years with T-shirts featuring a signature bull’s-eye logo. This year, CFDA member Marc Ecko designed an iPod case featuring the logo on the belt clip as well as on a dangling charm.

“In a time when lots of people sell T-shirts or bracelets, we as a group of fashion designers think about what we can do to reflect the current aesthetic,” said Peter Arnold, CFDA’s executive director.

The Ecko-designed iPod case is being manufactured by Monster Cable Products Inc., and will retail for $29.99 at Apple stores and apple.com from June 22. One-hundred percent of its net profits will benefit the cause.

In addition, Ecko asked fellow CFDA members to create one-of-a-kind customized cases for auction. Called “Style & Sound: A Case for a Cause,” the program will feature designs by Ecko, Sean John, Donna Karan, Carolina Herrera, Judith Leiber, Betsey Johnson, BCBG Max Azria, Carmen Marc Valvo, Luca Luca, Vivienne Tam, Nanette Lepore, Cynthia Rowley, Liz Lange and Robert Lee Morris.

Karan, for instance, created a hammered brass case; Lepore designed one encrusted with Indian beads; Johnson’s has dangling charms, and Tam made a fur-trimmed style. Each iPod case will include a 40GB iPod, and as part of the initiative, the designers asked their muses or celebrity clients for a playlist of favorite songs that will be copied onto the iPods. “You get these great combinations, like Betsey Johnson and Cindi Lauper, Marc Ecko and Jamie Foxx and Vivienne Tam and Jessica Alba,” Arnold said.

EBay will feature an online auction of the custom-made cases June 8-22. On June 22, a live auction will be held at a gala fund-raiser hosted by Ecko and Herrera.

Meanwhile, Dana Buchman, Carole Hochman, Lange and Lepore recently joined the initiative’s advisory committee, which already includes Bette-Ann Gwathmey for Ralph Lauren, Nicole Miller, Joseph Abboud, Betsey Johnson, Leigh Bantivoglio, Colette Malouf and Kay Unger.

Earlier this month, Fashion Targets Breast Cancer was launched in Ireland at Brown Thomas with Elle Macpherson as its face, and Arnold said there are discussions to expand into Spain and Portugal. The initiative already exists in such places as the U.K., Australia, Brazil, Japan, Canada and Turkey. Since its launch, it has raised and distributed more than $40 million.
