NEW YORK — Chico’s FAS, the fast-growing specialty chain, has its own executives on the fast track.
Among the string of promotions announced Tuesday, Charles J. Kleman became chief operating officer, while maintaining his responsibilities as chief financial officer. Kleman will oversee logistics, real estate, construction and information technology. He joined Chico’s in 1989 as controller and has held a few senior posts, including secretary-treasurer, and executive vice president of finance. Kleman also serves on the board.
Scott A. Edmonds, who was pumped up to president and chief executive about two months ago, formerly held the chief operating officer title.
The company also promoted Michael J. Kincaid to chief accounting officer in addition to his role as vice president of finance. James P. West rose from director of real estate to senior vice president of real estate.
Brett A. Robinson was promoted to vice president of real estate, from director of real estate of western operations, and Bari L. Horton rose to vice president of direct marketing, from director of direct marketing. She was instrumental in relaunching the Passport Club in 1999, a prime component in Chico’s formula for sales growth.
Chico’s, based in Fort Myers, Fla., sells private label women’s clothing and accessories. It operates 387 Chico’s stores and 22 outlets, as well as 110 White House-Black Market stores purchased last July. Franchisees own 12 Chico’s stores. Its eight Pazo stores are being discontinued and might be used to test a misses’ activewear and intimates concept geared toward the Chico’s customer and slated to bow in fall 2004.
Harrods plans to remove the famous statue of Princess Diana and Dodi Al Fayed from the bottom of the Egyptian escalators and hand it back to Mohamed Al-Fayed. “We are very proud to have played our role in celebrating the lives of Diana, Princess of Wales and Dodi Al Fayed at Harrods and to have welcomed people from around the world to visit the memorial for the past 20 years,” said Michael Ward, Harrods managing director. “With the announcement of the new official memorial statue to Diana, Princess of Wales at Kensington Palace, we feel that the time is right to return this memorial to Mr. Al Fayed and for the public to be invited to pay their respects at the palace.” More on the news, with reporting by @loreleimarfil, at WWD.com. #wwdnews

@kering_official is spinning off its stake in puma in an effort to focus on its luxury brands, the brand operator announced yesterday. “We are proud to have supported the turnaround of Puma, which now has unrivaled capabilities to take full advantage of the specific dynamics of its global markets and is poised to achieve substantial growth,” said François-Henri Pinault, Kering’s chief executive officer and chairman. The fashion world mourns for celebrated street style photographer, Nabile Quenum, who died at age 32 in Paris.
Quenum, creator of the fashion blog “J’ai Perdu Ma Veste,” was a fashion week fixture, and regularly shot for New York magazine’s The Cut, among other outlets, and brands such as Louis Vuitton, Moncler and Adidas.
