LONDON — Christopher Kane scooped the award for Women’s Wear Designer of the Year at this year’s British Fashion Awards, which were held Monday evening at the London Coliseum.

The award — which was presented to Kane by Donatella Versace — recognizes a designer who has been “instrumental in enhancing women’s fashion,” the British Fashion Council said. The accolade comes in the same year that the Kering Group took a 51 percent stake in Kane’s business.

Miuccia Prada won the first International Designer of the Year award, while Burberry won the Designer Brand of the Year award — presented by Sienna Miller — and Christopher Bailey of Burberry was named Men’s Wear Designer of the Year.

Nicholas Kirkwood was named Accessory Designer of the Year, while J.W. Anderson was named as the New Establishment Designer. Simone Rocha won the award for Emerging Women’s Wear Designer, and Agi & Sam, the label designed by Agi Mdumulla and Sam Cotton, won the Emerging Men’s Wear Designer award. Sophia Webster won the Emerging Accessory Designer award.
