NEW YORK — Comptoir Sud Pacifique, famous for its vanilla-based scents, is adding not one, but three to its menu.

The company’s limited-edition Exotic Vanilla Trio will be on counters beginning this month and continuing through April.

The fragrances are a combination of Tahitian vanilla and tropical fruits. The threesome includes Vanille Banane, a mix of banana cream, banana leaf and white rum; Vanille Orange, a blend of star fruit and orange, and Vanille Freesia that contains pitahaya (dragonfruit) and freesia. All of the scents contain vanilla pod as the base.

The trio is the first tropical vanilla fragrance from Comptoir Sud Pacifique in 10 years. “This is a one-time offer. We are doing something special for our vanilla fans who want something new and different,” said Susan Anapol, president of marketing and distribution for the U.S. division of Comptoir Sud Pacifique.

The collection contains three 1.76-oz. bottles in the firm’s signature packaging: aluminum spray cans in a turquoise outer box. The set retails for $120 and is available at Barneys New York, Bergdorf Goodman, Fred Segal Essentials, Fred Segal Apothia and beauty.com.

Industry sources estimate that Vanilla Trio could as much as $350,000 in sales.

The brand’s fragrances, such as bestseller Vanille Apricot, are available in 2-oz. and 3.3-oz. sizes for $49 and $79, respectively. While there are not definite plans to make the tropical vanilla scents permanent additions, Anapol noted that “if there is a frenzy and we get requests to do the best-selling one — or if they’re all hits — then we’ll release all of them.”

Comptoir Sud Pacifique’s future plans include an eau de toilette that is set to launch in spring 2003.
