MILAN — Vogue Italia’s editor in chief Franca Sozzani on Wednesday unveiled details of the 12th edition of Convivio, the biannual AIDS fund-raiser launched by Gianni Versace in 1992, which will take place June 13 to 17 at Fieramilanocity.
“The goal is to reach last edition’s same results,” said Sozzani, referring to the more than 2 million euros, or $2.7 million at current exchange, raised in 2012. “To make this possible, considered the difficult economical moment for many people, we have cut the costs as much as we could and we have increased the price of tables.”
According to an industry source, while in 2012 the brands taking part to Convivio paid 3,500 euros, or $4,757, for a table during the opening gala dinner, it will cost 5,000 euros, or $6,796, to secure one of the 100 tables available for the party, which is set for June 12.
“The companies will have to customize their table, and this season the theme is ‘Fantasy,’” Sozzani said.
Along with the products of a number of fashion houses — including Brunello Cucinelli, Calvin Klein, Costume National, Diesel, Emporio Armani and Giorgio Armani, Etro, Gianni Versace, Missoni, Moncler, Moschino Cheap & Chic, Prada, Tod’s and Valentino — Convivio guests will have the opportunity to buy the works of a number of designers and photographers, such as Maurizio Cattelan, Francesco Vezzoli, Giovanni Gastel, Karim Rashid, Gaetano Pesce and Fabio Novembre. In addition, an area will be dedicated to vintage fashion with clothes coming from companies’ archives and private wardrobes.
As usual, all the proceeds will be donated to ANLAIDS Lombardia, the national Italian association fighting against AIDS.
“The epidemic has never stopped,” said ANLAIDS president Mauro Moroni, explaining that 4,000 people become infected with HIV every year in Italy — three a day in Milan alone. “The truth is that they can live a decent life but they cannot recover, so prevention is fundamental.” In order to make people aware about the importance of doing HIV tests, those attending Convivio will have the chance to try the Easy Test, a system that allows for a quick test of HIV status.
