NEW YORK — Loidian Cordero always enjoyed being a stylist, but her latest gig has become her passion.

The former celebrity and fashion stylist is stepping into a designer role by launching Cordero, a line of sexy day and cocktail dresses. The line makes its debut Thursday in a presentation at Villa Giardinetto at 735 Second Avenue here.

Cordero, a native New Yorker of Puerto Rican descent, used to style J.Lo on press junkets for her music and movies, worked for advertising agency Lespata/Decaro and most recently styled swimsuit calendars for Daniela Pestova and Heidi Klum. After befriending Klum through work, the model agreed to pose wearing a Cordero dress for the newly formed line’s promotional material.

The line is comprised of flirty styles casual enough to be worn during the day but bold enough for night, with details such as ruching and twisting. The dresses will wholesale for about $200 and are made of fabrics including silk jersey, silk charmeuse, silk crepe and matte jersey.

“I started to design dresses out of a need for clothes for myself,” Cordero said in a recent interview. “I went shopping and found things that were beautiful but too high-priced. I decided to make beautiful dresses that weren’t so expensive so other girls could afford to dress well.”
