Bestsellers included a black silk crepe cocktail dress with illusion yoke and sleeves, eight units at $995; a brown satin strapless ball gown with illusion gauntlets, five units at $3,300; and an organza ball gown with lace bodice in ivory or black, four units at $4,200.
“I’ve watched her for a very long time and there’s no question she’s star material,” said Joseph Cicio, Magnin’s chairman and chief executive officer. “Her creativity and sensitivity to fine detailing are extraordinary.”
For Wang, who appeared at the store on Wednesday, the first day of the show, the return trip to California was a personal challenge. “I was in Los Angeles for I. Magnin during the January earthquake, and I had a mental blowout….This was a big step to overcome my fear and come back. It was more than a New Yorker could handle,” said Wang, who designs bridal and eveningwear.
