NEW YORK —?Veteran retailer Dale Crichton of Nordstrom is the latest industry heavyweight to enter the Fragrance Foundation’s Circle of Champions.
At a dinner held Monday at the St. Regis Hotel, Crichton, who is executive vice president and corporate merchandise manager of cosmetics and fragrance for Nordstrom, was honored by a lineup of her peers, including Patrick Bousquet-Chavanne, group president of the Estée Lauder Cos. and the chairman of the Fragrance Foundation, and Peter Nordstrom, president of Nordstrom’s full-line stores.
“I first met Dale Crichton during the last millennium,” cracked Donald Loftus, president and chief executive officer of Cosmopolitan Cosmetics U.S. Inc., who introduced Crichton. “I had a full head of hair and a 32-inch waist. Dale, however, looked exactly as she does today. I find that really annoying.”
Loftus outlined Crichton’s career, which included stints as jewelry buyer and salesperson on the floor before becoming cosmetics buyer in 1976. “She has taken a fledgling department and turned it into a top-performing, multimillion-dollar division with cutting-edge brands, progressive department design and an outstanding team of professionals whose sole purpose is to take care of the customers,” said Loftus.
A visibly emotional Crichton thanked her team, “who strive every day to share each brand’s story with our customers.”
Past inductees to the Circle of Champions, which honors individuals who have had a significant impact on the fragrance industry, include Leonard Lauder, Guy Peyrelongue and Annette Green.
