THE NAME GAME: Two West Coast apparel companies are changing their names and, ultimately, their looks.

Molto Fino, an upscale knitwear resource in Santa Monica, Calif., is modifying its Molto Fino label to read Leslie Gifford for Molto Fino beginning with June 1994 deliveries.

Designer Gifford and husband, company president Bruce Gifford, said they will eventually introduce a Leslie Gifford contemporary sweater dressing collection and wanted to build designer name recognition.

The company will continue to produce novelty cotton interlock sportswear under the Molto Fino label.

At Group B Clothing Co. in Vernon, Calif., owners Marty and Marsha Brander, husband and wife, are shipping the last of merchandise under the Componix label.

Summer goods will carry the label, Changes by Componix, and beginning with mid-July deliveries, the label will simply read Changes.

MINI MARKET MAKES GOOD: Attendance at the California Mart’s extended Market Tuesday event last week was so high that Mart officials are now toying with the idea of holding”mini markets” quarterly.

Market Tuesday is a weekly program designed to promote buyer traffic between major markets. The Feb. 8 to 10 mini market was organized to make up for lost business from the Jan. 17 earthquake.

The temblor halted market activities during Los Angeles Summer Fashion Week, which also showcased intimate apparel resources.”On Tuesday [February 8], we had three times the traffic we usually get on a regular Market Tuesday,” said Ruth McKeown, mart director of markets and trade shows. “Wednesday and Thursday buyer attendance was way up, too,” she added.
