NEW YORK — After expanding Oscar de la Renta to include accessories, bridal gowns and a home furnishings collection, the company is now focusing some energy on expanding its presence in the bridge area through its Oscar by Oscar de la Renta line.

The company said Wednesday it has entered into a licensing agreement with Fleet Street Ltd. to manufacture and distribute the Oscar by Oscar de la Renta Outerwear Collection.

“Coats have always been a signature item for my collections,” de la Renta said in a statement. “I look forward to expanding our offerings to the Oscar by Oscar de la Renta customer.”

Whereas a yellow silk brocade coat with sable collar from the designer collection may set a consumer back about $9,600, the new outerwear line will range in price from $200 to $1,200 wholesale and will include coats, outerwear, rainwear and leather styles. Design will be overseen by de la Renta and the new showroom is located at 512 Seventh Avenue here.

Joel Orenstein, formerly president of Halston, has been named president and chief executive officer of the Oscar Outerwear division, which is expected to generate first-year sales volume of between $7 million and $10 million. Orenstein reports to Manny Haber, ceo of Fleet Street.

The new line is being marketed to specialty stores and the coat departments of retailers such as Bergdorf Goodman, Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Bloomingdale’s, Saks Fifth Avenue and Lord & Taylor. The line is slated to land at retail beginning in June next year.

Details such as where the line will be manufactured and whether or not the line will have its own advertising campaign are still being worked out, according to Orenstein.
