NEW YORK — The deadline for young designers to apply for the Ecco Domani Fashion Foundation awards is Oct. 24.

For the third year in a row, Ecco Domani, the Italian winemaker, will award four up-and-coming women’s designers and one new men’s wear designer with $20,000 each to be used toward a showing of their fall 2004 collections here.

Applicants must be at least 21 years old, must not have been in the design business for more than three years, must have a minimum of one retail account, and are required to provide their look book or a minimum of 10 photos of their most recent collection. After a selection committee reviews the applications, 25 semifinalists will be selected and asked to send in five ready-to-wear looks. Five winners will be notified by Dec. 1.

During the past two years, winners have been Zac Posen, Peter Som, Mark Kroeker, Tess Giberson, As Four, Proenza Schouler, Project Alabama, Palmer Jones, Vasseur Esquivel and men’s wear designer Cloak.

The selection committee consists ofMarylou Luther, editor of the International Fashion Syndicate; Sally Singer, fashion news-features director at Vogue; Kim Hastreiter, editor in chief and publisher of Paper; Joan Kaner, senior vice president and fashion director at Neiman Marcus; Julie Gilhart, vice president of fashion merchandising at Barneys New York, and Ruth Finley, publisher of the Fashion Calendar.
