Organizers of Fashion’s Night Out were faced with a major challenge this year: how to top the shopping event’s 2009 launch extravaganza. They started by warming up New Yorkers with an open-air, public runway show at Lincoln Center a few nights earlier that featured a cast of about 150 top models including Gisele Bündchen, Karolina Kurkova, Adriana Lima, Alessandra Ambrosio, Coco Rocha and Lara Stone.
On the actual night, the city’s main shopping streets were once again mobbed—and there was no shortage of celebs. Among the highlights: Viktor & Rolf’s bed-in at Saks Fifth Avenue; a crowd of screaming girls waiting more than an hour for Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen to arrive and judge a karaoke contest at Barneys New York; Kanye West being mobbed by fans while walking the streets of SoHo, and Catherine Zeta-Jones and Sarah Jessica Parker at Oscar de la Renta. Nothing could beat the sight of Naomi Campbell and a gaggle of models clad in Naomi T-shirts dancing wildly in front of Dolce & Gabbana on Madison Avenue.

"It's really hard sometimes. I think I have a reputation for being really tough and aggressive and pushy but I really am a very shy person who wants to be liked, and that's the conflict constantly. There's something that takes hold - I want people to like me, I don't want to be mean - but if I see something that just cries out to be answered, I go for it," says renowned NBC News correspondent Andrea Mitchell.
