Currently working on a new album set for a 2004 release, the band is celebrating its 25th anniversary with a live performance by its original lineup for the first time in the U.S. in 18 years. The show, which takes place on July 15 at the Roxy Theater in Los Angeles, will reunite Simon Le Bon; Nick Rhodes, and John, Andy and Roger Taylor.
The venue holds a great deal of history for the band. The Roxy was the first U.S. venue at which Duran Duran ever performed, making it an apt place for the band to perform after 25 years together.
As presenting sponsors, DKNY Jeans and The Fader are coming together to help make this show possible. Both brands make an effort to support the iconic music that inspires emerging artists. With a trend in fashion looking to the Eighties, Duran Duran, who saw the height of its popularity in the decade, is the next band of choice for the brands to support.
“Through their music, Duran Duran became synonymous with originality, sexiness and cool,” said Susan Davidson, president of DKNY Jeans. “DKNY Jeans reflects that same sensibility through its fashion and lifestyle designs. The band and the brand are a perfect match.”
This performance is a platform for the second coming of Duran Duran. Besides a new album in the works, the band will play a series of special shows. It also will release several commemorative items before the new album hits stores, including a greatest-hits DVD, reissues of classic Duran Duran albums and the launch of a new fan community Web site.
Space for the July 15 show is limited since the theater can only hold about 300 people. Tickets are $25 and will go on sale on July 14 at noon at the Roxy Theater box office.
