Customers shopping at the Mavi store in Manhattan’s Union Square will be posing — but not in the dressing room mirror.

The store will offer a free yoga class to customers on Aug. 20. Inspired by Russell Simmons’ HBO series, “Def Poetry Jam,” the class is called spoken yoga, which combines the discipline of Vinyasa yoga with the freedom of the spoken word. This innovative pairing engages participants physically, as well as mentally. The spoken word and one’s breath act as constant points of reference for the changing postures generating a relaxing rhythm for a class filled with sun salutations and spoken celebrations.

Led by Crunch instructors, the spoken yoga class will be held from 6:30-7:30 p.m. in the store’s gallery on the lower level. The class will be limited to 25 participants on a first come, first serve basis. With any Mavi purchase, customers will receive a wristband and a pass to any Crunch location in Manhattan.

According to a company spokeswoman, Mavi is testing the yoga class and if it has a good turnout, it will offer more in the future.

“Our philosophy from the beginning was to create a space for fashion, art and events,” said Ersin Akarlilar, president of Mavi America. “Crunch Yoga at Mavi is a perfect extension of our philosophy.”
