If you can make it there, you can make it anywhere.” Apparently heeding the advice of Frank Sinatra, the Australian import Sass & Bide is planning to show its growing denim collection during New York fashion week in February, according to a company official.

“We consider it a big statement in that this is the market we’re now focusing on,” said Josh Sparks, chief executive officer of the Sydney-based company. “What we’ve discovered over the last 12 months or so is that the best place for us to be is the U.S., and New York obviously is the place to show. It’s representative of the market we want to develop our business into.”

The four-year-old company expanded into the U.K. several years ago and now does about $15 million in sales worldwide. It began selling goods in the U.S. for the prespring market, through the Denise Williamson showroom in SoHo. Over time, the high-end line, which wholesales for $65 to $110, sees significant growth potential in the U.S., Sparks said.

He added, “Whether that is a $20 million or $50 million [market] isn’t something I’d want to commit to at this stage. It’s more about positioning the brand.”
